Anybody know what kind of arrow shaft material the Western Plains Indians used? I'm thinking Western Canada.

A lot of the Plains tribes used wild rose, red osier dogwood, and chokecherry shoots. Don't know about western Canada, but if any of those grow there, they probably used them.

Red Osier dogwood.....and they sometimes smoked a "tobacco" mix (Kinnickinnic) that contained the inner bark of the dogwood.   ;D

Wild rose,oceanspray,really any straight shoot and even river willow that the beaver had chewed the bark off'a(Good medicine in them tooth marks) Salvaging beaver willow,you gotta seal the ends with pitch(Or paint or elmers) so it does'nt check as it dries.  Frank
