Just curious. Do all of you remove the scales? Or do some of you leave them on? I think someone once said if you don't remove them they will fall off when bending bow. I've done both. I've never had them fall off shooting bow but some come lose put tru oil on. Sometimes I like the looks of the scales. Maybe I'm just weird though.

I do. I just pull them off with Duc tape after I glue it to the bow.

Compressed air works really good. You don't want any left over.

I use masking tape to get most off, then my thumb nail to get the rest.

Is there a reason you take them off? I guess extra weight? Just don't like em? Maybe I'm just weird? Probably the later.

The scales can discolor under the finish and I imagine cause the finish to loosen as the scales are shed.
I remove scales the same as the guys above sometimes having to scrape a few with my thumb nail.

I never leave them on. The colors of the skin will be better when you you remove them. The scales are kind of a smokey color that dull the colors a little bit. If you leave them on they will probably come loose on their own as you shoot and handle the bow. I use an air compressor to blow them off or a sweaty thumb to push them off.

Thanks Pat
Thanks Clint, guess I'll start taking them off from now on. I haven't really noticed any problems on the ones I left them on but maybe in time I will. They do soak up a lot of tru oil.
