Finished a bow I’ve been fooling with off and on for a while. I don’t have the skill that most of you have, especially with finish details, but I’m happy with it. 59” hackberry, 55# @ 26” .

:OK

Nah, your work looks great! MOAR pics, if you have em....

I like it, That's they way a bow is supposed to look IMO any way.
-
That's a real sweet full draw picture

I like it! Nice job on the stain, tiller looks real good too!
-
Very nice looking full bow and full draw. Did you heat treat the belly? How wide are the limbs?
-
That looks great, a lot of us here are not big on finish work. Whatever pleases you is what counts there. Your bow came out very nice.

There a lot more fun to shoot than look at anyhow

Thanks guys. I’ll post more pics tomorrow if weather permits, can’t get a god pic inside to save my life. Limbs are a 1 1/5” parallel tapering last 10” to 1/2” nocks. Heated the tar out of the belly. Stain was accidental. Mixed a pack of black rit dye with a quart of alcohol. Well that turns hackberry purple. After probably 15 applications of that mix I put some walnut danish oil on it that made it look pretty decent.

Nice one. You got plenty a skills.

Great looking full draw pic!

Tiller looks spot on and in the immortal words of one of our members... everything else is just frosting.

If it don't go, chrome it ;)

Thanks again guys. Here’s a few other profile pics.
-
Good job and have some fun with it ,you tillered it well.
-
Really nice, low profile killing machine.

Thank you again guys.
My taste tends to lean towards very simplistic design and finish. I see so many Beautiful, meticulously finished bows on here and I’m very humbled by the artistic skill and patience it takes to finish a bow out like that.
Patience isn’t my strong suit, and has caused several bow failures early on for me, so now I take it snail paced slow and come out with a useable bow most times....
However by the time I shoot one in, its all I can do to slap some oil and a piece of leather on it.
At one point I had a few tillered bows shot in and sitting in the corner of the shop bare for months before giving them away for someone else to finish.
Ironically though, I usually start laying out a new stave, or pulling bark etc to prepare the next victim as soon as I get the last shot in.

That looks like an awesome bow mate! :)

Like it!
How did you stain it?
-
Love that simple and rugged look. Great job.
-
Great looking short bow. Hackberry is nice to work, and you did it justice!

How did you stain it?
I mixed black powdered rit dye with alcohol. My hopes was to do a few coats for a dark gray, but it made it purple. I kept adding coats till it was dark and rubbed a few coats of walnut danish oil on it and it took the purple away.

I think it looks great. Sweet bend too

Looks good Morgan, tiller is killer!
-
Ditto to the previous traffic.Very well done.
-
Nice job. Looks great.

Thanks again to all of y’all. I’ve been kinda self conscious about posting bows I make. All the bows I make are plain and simple and I like them, but I’m surprised at the compliments I’ve received.

Don't be! Everyone started somewhere, and there are always gonna be blow-hards, but they are very few in either trad archery or primitive bowyer circles. EVERYBODY here loves wooden bows. Simple, fancy, whatever. If it survives to full draw, and doesn't look like a cartoon, it's beautiful, whether perfect or not.
And, seriously, the real beauty is in the tiller. Your bows are FINE!
I have some of the worst adult ADD you've ever seen, and I have a similar problem finishing stuff. Sometimes, I have INFINITE patience and almost spooky levels of focus, but not necessarily for say, sanding. I often get a bow to the point where I learned what I wanted to learn, or tried what I wanted to try, and set it aside the next time I get interrupted, for who knows how long. Eventually, I get around to finishing and posting. You are not alone.

Hey Morgan,
Looking good! 59" with that weight sounds awesome to me, I like the stain. Should be a good bow to hunt from a blind. Heck I like everything about it.
