I started this a few months ago, could not find the thread,, so started again,,
this is osage and just roughed out to almost floor tiler,, its a beautiful piece of osage and hoping it gonna make a nice bow for a special archer,,it doesnt make much to make me happy,, just a simple graceful profile is so pleasing to my eye, cant wait to shoot it,, :)
I put more of a handle this than for myself,, cause I know what he likes and want to accomodate his shooting style,,
-
I like the elegance of the handle and fades! Good work.
-
I like that profile. Good work.
What are the specs? Width and length wise.
-
Yeah, I like the handle, too. Can't wait to see the rest.
-
Its looking great! Can't wait to see it bend.
-
Super looking front profile.....be glad to see it bending.

Apparently you know what I like to, if your friend doesn’t like it tell him I will send him my address, lol. Very nice profile, can’t wait to see full draw.
-
Can't wait to see it finished.
-
That is a great looking profile. Should make a very nice bow!
-
Brad nice start like the profile. You made one awhile back for a special Archer if I remember right. Is this one going the same way?

Looking good so far, beautiful piece of wood that should make a fine bow for a lucky friend.

Smooth curves in that profile, beautiful!
-
Brad, the lines on that stave flow beautifully. Jawge
-
I like that !!!

thanks for all the positive comments and support,
this bow is going to a different person and is a surprise
that way I dont have a deadline since they dont know its coming :)
the weather has been nice so I hope to get it bending soon
the bow now is about 66 nock to nock, and I am going for 40 to 45@ 28
I want it to be ok for target and also enough to kill a deer,, (-S or several deer :)
-
ok this bow tried to unravel on me, like a perfect stave will do sometimes,,
I drew it to 25 and it broke, a big splinter came off the mid limb bout 1/4 wide,,
I just unstrung it went inside and meditated,, cried really,,
ok went outside ,, broke out the evil band saw cut the side off the bow,, strung it and it still had enough weight to make the bow,,
but my perfect front profile was now a character bow,, :)
got it tillerd the best I could,,drew it to 28 and it was 43,,,,,, whew,,
so here are some pics of the bow,, shoots really nice so all is good,, just not what I was planning,, (-S

art detail

Well it still came out smooth looking to me.Very nice work getting it to what you wanted yet. What did you do to repair it?
-
Good save!
-
I just cut the side of the bow off that was broke,, then it was ok,,
just severly side tillerd,, but got lucky and had enough bow left ,, did have to cut the bottom limb shorter to even the tiller
-
Cool...Now that you say that the bow does look narrower. That's using the old bean to fix things from experience though. Was it longitudal grain run off causing the problem?Lucky you started with plenty of wood then.
-
Nice that it broke when and where it did Brad. Nice fairly easy fix. It sure looks like you planned it that way. Really like your art work. Is it backed bow or is art work on wood of back.
-
Nice save Brad. Pays to have experience. Very nice looking bow
-
yes the bow split with the grain,,
and the bow is not backed,, just art work,,
I had a check looking thing, but I didnt think it was a problem,, but it was,, I have a feeling that heat treating the bow may have made it a bit more brittle, its really dry here,, and I didnt let the bow re hydrate very long, so it really may have been error on my part being impatient
-
Great save Brad! I love the artwork. (-S
