Title: Bow I made at Chris's house few weeks back
Post by: paulsemp on March 30, 2018, 05:27:53 pm
Earlier this month Greg Mike and I went to Chris's house for the weekend to make bows. I brought a fairly clean Osage stave with me. nasty knot in the handle and mid limb on the bottom.  I ended up digging out the knot and leaving some extra beef around it. Turned out 66" ntn and 52@26. I copied Chris's Hickory sapwood Heartwood stagger for my tips. And I believe Clint sent the handle material to Chris. It is heavy duty ace bandage like material for farm animals. It's surprisingly soft comfortable and stays together well. Just a simple longbow but shoots real well. Thanks for looking

Sweet looking bow Paul.  How did you like that handle wrap?  I haven't tried it yet.

I was very skeptical but not in the mood to stitch up a leather one. Very comfortable and holds your hand in one place. I have not shot the snot out of it yet so how well it will hold up to be figured out in the future.

I agree, that grip wrap is comfy. I can assume it dampens any vibrations to. Bow looks great man. Tiller is spot on.

Looks good!  If that wrap will stand up to a horse, it should do well on a bow!

No sir. Did the picture myself with my cell phone and it flips it. I can barely shoot right-handed I wouldn't dare try to shoot left

I have used that vet wrap for perches for hawks.  Gives them a good solid non-slip grip. One hawk is very particular about perching, she loves it.

I had never thought to use it for a bow grip, though.  Be sure I will give it a good ol' try-out!

Good looking bow Paul, and looks like a real shooter. I have used the vet wrap for over a year now. I use it durring my tillering as I use a hanging web harness an it grips really well with no slip. I like the look of a nice leather grip but I do wrap over that for hunting season, the cushion and almost glue like grip works out real well for that.

Great bend on that one and I love the handle.  Nice character with the knot.
