I saw the Viking necker and I had a couple of hours so I decided to get one going too. I used an old Simmons file, fired up the forge and when it got that file hot I started the tip, then roughed in the bevels. Then I cut the tang out and I hope tomorrow I can get it drawn out enough for the handle
-
cant wait to see its progression.
-
Looks like it's going to be a nice one Bubby.
-
I got a start on the tang and ran out of propane, 👀 oh well
-
Looks good so far. (-P

This is after the last thermocycle. When it cools good I go for heat treat, I'm thinking about a hamon on this little necker but not sure yet
-
Here's a pic before I bent the handle
-
You're getting to be a pro at this. I'd go for the hamon.
-
Well I was in a hurry and didn't do the hamon
-
Looks good.

Thanks guys, these are fun to make and make a good utility knife
-
I love this knife shape and your implementation is very good
There is, though, one thing that crosses my mind every time I look at it
will I have my fingers pinched if I apply strong pressure on the handle? :D
-
Hasn't happened to me yet
-
hasn't happened to me either.
I talked to a friend of mine that uses this style knife every day for the last couple years.
he says short of trying to use it as a pry bar .
slim chance of pinching yourself.
-
Man that's sweet
-
That turned out real nice Bubby...
