Title: Hickory
Post by: Nasr on May 05, 2018, 06:16:09 pm
Hello everyone, i was just wondering if these trees are hickory trees. they are about 30 to 40 feet tall. I am located in southeast Michigan. Kinda wanted to make a bow out of a nice branch from these trees but if its not a hickory or another good bow wood i wont bother.

Hickory is very easy to ID by leaves/buds... and if you wait then you can cut it when the sap is flowing and the bark just peels off... :)  Here's a guide for later on-

Get back out there and dig around the chain link fence for some of last year's leaves. Speaking from experience, it's pretty hard to get every leaf raked up from around those dang things. If they are not too weathered, you may be able to get an idea what shape they are!
