Title: BL cons to leaving sapwood on back?
Post by: Lumberman on May 26, 2018, 04:48:59 pm
Should I chase a couple rings down to the heartwood on some BL staves I cut today or is not too crucial?

Yes, you should. Heartwood is the best for the back. Jawge

+1

I once made an all sapwood bl bow just to see how it would shoot. It was a dog for sure.

Alright thanks! I've seen some different posts with people trying both. Saw yesterday someone used a deadwood BL because the heartwood was still sound. Kind of wish I would have checked a couple dead ones out here before cutting a live tree. Thanks again

I've built BL bows with sapwood backs but only when I didn't have enough heartwood for a bow.
