Title: Timber Rattler and Stone Point

    Skinned and fleshed a nice Timber Rattler today using a stone point...I killed a deer with this point a couple years ago and it still has the pine pitch on the base...This should add some "mojo" to the skin and point...The fine serrated edge really does a good job grabbing and pulling the meat away! This snake was 66" with the business end attached...Inside in the AC drying, it is a mug here in S.Carolina right now...

Some of that hornstone and oil chert is some kind of hard rock sir. Nothin beats stone for fleshing and cleaning. Used some (hornstone) on the turtle legs and worked good like that. Be careful playing with those South Carolina critters my friend, Nice skin for sure and I still have that "honker" you sent me. Y'all grow 'em big down there ::).

   Rich, I will be using stone on the skins from now on...Perfect little tool to cut and scrape with the micro serrated edge...

That's a nice one. I usually cut the belly scales off with a pair of scissors. Saves scraping the meat there.

           That would save a lot of work...But, I generally use half way into the belly for skins if I'm going to split in halves, use the other half for staples...

     Took the skin of the board and flipped it over...I sure like the looks of a Timber Rattler's pattern...Going to meet up with S.C.hunter today...I think Steve will make good use of it...The last couple of bows he posted were extra nice...I gotta get him to skin one up for us!

Timber rattler is one of my favorite snake skins. I especially like the pink coloration in some of them.  It can be split lengthwise and both halves match well enough to use on one bow.

    Thought it would be interesting doing one with a stone tool...Kind of felt like I was going back in time...Ya see, there are time machines you just have to make your own...Bill, living in Ol'Kentuck you probably stumble up on one every now and then...You also Pat living in Carolina...

    Bj, this skin will be split down the middle and put on a bow, it will be a dead match that way...
