Title: Maple ipe
Post by: bubby on July 16, 2018, 11:12:01 pm
This a ipe maple bow built with some billets I got from the drummer boy, he even cut the splices and a perfect fit by the way😉. I ripped the maple and just made a but joint at the grip on it. Added some gonco alves in the handle area and in the glued on statics with Osage tip overlays , that's ipe on the back of the bow as well. 62" ttt I think and around #60 @28". D-97 ten strand string double served

I've always liked your bows bubby, and I'm really liking your ipe! Ipe just has a nice contrast with white wood. I have ipe bows backed with hickory, white oak and one with maple. Each of the ipe bows as well have a different color to them, which definitely makes each one unique.
Great looking bow and keep them coming! Dave

Glad you found some use for those billets. That ipe is at least 10 years old. Its left overs from a deck project. It has made several bows and all have survived, don't screw that up! Wish I had more stashed away.

Lots to admire right there. Looks like it doesn't take much ipe to make a bow. 10 strands of d 97 is my go to string also, but I never tried double serving.

I have a friend who made a boo backed ipe many years ago. He never sealed it with anything and never had a problem.
