Could anyone help me with a design for wild plum? I've got a few character staves and need to know how to lay them out. The wood is absolutely beautiful and should make a very beautiful bow. Does wild plum take well to steam or dry heat? How wide should I make it at the fades? Does it need to be rounded in cross section or flat? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ive had these staves for a couple of years and they should be ready. Thanks in advance. Tim

You can make any bow design you like from plum, I treat it about like I do osage, not quite as dense but slightly more elastic. I have never seen a full length plumb bow of decent width maybe 66" long and 1 1/2 wide. I bet that would be a killer bow if you have enough wood.

I have always left it on but I have never had a big enough piece to remove it.
