Hi!
i want to show you the bows i made after black holes. This was wood, harvested last autumn. some staves didn't split so nice. So there wasn't much left - but roughing them out and drying above the oven after some days normal RH, worked out quite fast and i could continue bow making.
They are not perfect but have been good learning projects. And most important the family is happy. Nothing bothers a kid more than an arrow which didn't stuck.
Sorry for my wife and daughter arrows. I need to get some bamboo .
daughter´s bow: birch 45" 17#@20"
stiff handle 3,5", pyramide, symetric,
there is a weak spot just below the nipple, maybe i will try out, stiffening it out with flax
-
my sons bow: yew 35" hard enough for him
-
my wife's bow: maple 58" 21#@25"
stiff handle, symmetric ,holmegaard design
its twisted - so one end got a side nock
-
chicken wings: birch 61" 29#@28"
the name come from my dry heat bending. I greaced the ends with chicken grease and put it in the oven, as i was working them out it always smelled like chicken wings, so...
it didn't hold the reflex, instead it took a lot of set - it was still too wet, i guess unless it was the thickest one
so i let it dry out, bought a hygrometer, and a wood moisture checker...
to bring some live into it i decided to steam and backset it. so it became this kind of an amor´s bow
now its shooting really nice for its poundage

i´ve build one static - which didn't came out so nicely, as my nephew is shooting it, I've to catch him firs for some pics.
thanks for watching

I was struggling with the computer. now its fine and I can post some bows again.
my daughter s bow gave up, the hinge became to an issue and a flax wrapping didn't help either so a new one had to be made.
So here she is:
Purple leaf plum, 51", 17#@24", 3"stiff handle,
there are two big knots in the upper.
I steamed a big deflex out there to. The outers were deflected a bit with a bathroom heater which I reuse now for heat treating and arrow tuning.
The nocks are Mahagoni wedges, so I can adjust draw weight a bit, which I have to do unless she can draw her until 19" - 20".
The pics are 51" ntn

Another one made of Purple leaf plum, which I carved out with a knife.
It is a little bit to strong for my boy, but he s growing...
33 3/4 ", 15#@15"
I secured some drying checks at one limb with flax

i was too slow for the selfie...

i gorgot to mention I secured the knots of my daughter s bow with glued ring of flax - lying in a groove around the knot.
I love this wood - my mum is not going to be happy in spring )W(. lol

Nice job for the whole family! I think your daughter will shoot better with her eyes open, though! They grow into and out of those bows pretty quick, as well! Ok, not your wife, she will just get stronger >:D (SH)! Never tell a lady she is growing! I'm crazy, not dumb! Have fun shooting as a family.
