Title: heat treating board bows on a stove

Any thoughts on heat treating a hickory board vs a stave are welcome.  I ask because I heat treated a 68 inch bow, and am needing to heat treat again after some removal of wood.  Bow only drawn 16 inches, btw.  I am learning. :D

Forget heat treating for now and take time to learn to properly tiller a bow. Once you get that there is a multitude of ways you can go, heat treating including.
 Hickory, whether board or stave is very strong in tension so any increase in compression strength is a good thing but there are also other methods of design and construction that can also decrease the compression stresses.

thx Pat.  Just took the bow off the stove, lightly treated, lol.  Proper tiller, that is my new goal.  The search thread material about being careful about the initial brace really got me thinking.

Kiln dried boards have been heat treated?
