Title: Well I got pressure down...
Post by: Ryan Jacob on October 05, 2018, 06:53:18 am
But how do I do percussion work? I’m having trouble thinning down some thicker slabs so I’m starting to consider it now. Everything I do with percussion is weird. The flakes don’t travel, they’re either very wide or step. But that’s probably just the fact that I’m using quartzite on glass. Still gotta make that aluminum bopper...

copper bopper works well on glass

If you are  percussing glass you need a very strong platform, below center if you are going to strike it with a hard hammer, Glass likes antler. Elk is my choice. Copper works OK if the bopper has a small impact point.
If you are doing slabs try angling your flakes obliquely so they travel further. Once you reach the center
you will have enough curvature to flake at a 90 degree angle if you choose.
