I found a nice package in my porch this morning from PatB, but I won't open it until I get my gift shipped.  That will give me an incentive to work harder. Final exams are this week, so I can finally turn my thoughts to Christmas.

can't wait to see what it is.  Gotta get working.  I had my project mostly done two weeks ago, and suffered a setback with it that forced me to start all over again--I would rather be right than early.

Here is the Possibles bag from PatB.  It came with a beautiful little knife and it was filled with a box of stone and slabs for knapping.  I already worked two of the slab preforms, and other than breaking the ear off an obsidian side notch (making it a Christmas tree style more appropriate for the season) it works pretty good.  The flint is the first point I have made not from glass or obsidian.  I really like the bag and the knife.  I am going to have fun with the rock.

Glad it all works for you, Jeff. The knife was made by Dylan Holderman from a file, I added the scales. The stone, slabs and preforms were sent to me by generous PA members when I thought I'd start knapping...which I never did.
Merry Christmas.   :OK

Santa left me a very nice present from Trapper Rob. It's a hand forged campfire tool kit. I love it.
Hope the pictures show it ok. A hotdog stick, a marsh mellow stick, fire poker and a pot picker.
Thanks Rob
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I came home to an awesome present on my front step just a little while ago.  What a great knife.  I was drooling over this when BJ posted pictures of it.  It is even nicer in person.  Thanks BJ.  Merry Christmas!

Thanks Rob I'm looking forward to using them.
Swampman I'm glad you like the knife and stand. My wife really did like that one. She was wondering if you got it yet. I actually put the knife on the stand with handle down. If you look at the pictures I posted on Christmas trade maybe you can see how I had it. Wouldn't want it to fall off on you.
Merry Christmas

I received this cool puzzle box from Trevor yesterday. It kept my 14 year old daughter occupied for 45 minutes last night. It took her a while, but she figured it out. It was good to see a teenager not on her phone. Thanks Trevor!

Received a gift from an unknown person while we were out of town.

Package included 6 seasoned shoot shafts, which looks like dog wood, but to pithy to be dogwood, so I have no idea what it is?

Also included 2 bow billets, which I think might be osage orange? but it is a total guess because I've never had osage orange.

And also some natural string/fiber material, again not sure what it is? Palm frond fiber, or yucca fiber?

Super excited to get to use different materials that I've never used!! hopefully the sender will reply with a better description of the materials  ;D

Thank you very much  :)

Burtonridr,
That package was from me. I thought I wrote my handle next to my name on te shipping label. But no big deal. In the box is: a pair of characters shagbark hickory billets that have been in a barn loft for 3 years, multuflora rose shafts that have been drying about 3 months, the fibers are yucca and there should be a white silk ribbon that long enough to back 2-3 bows depending on length.
I hope they’re things you can make use of.

Kyle

Warpath,

I wasn't sure that package was going to make it.  I mailed it on December 13th and it was supposed to get to you on the 19th.  I am really glad the USPS finally came through.

Rob, glad the call made it. So that is a black walnut burl, with some acrylic resin. Hopefully one of these days we can call some turkeys in together with it! I just have to find the time to get to PA! Here’s a pic for those who haven’t seen it. I didn’t want to post a pic before shipping due to the fact that Rob knew he was my victim.

I was wondering where that fine quiver was going. I saw one he made at Elm Hall and it was very well made.

Glad it got there. The bamboo slats grew on my property. I flattened them, but they would be best if ground down to a knife edge.  I didnt do that because the edge gets really brittle. The bamboo shafts are tomato stakes. I bought 6 packets to get that many good ones, but they should be perfect. I have one more thing I am still working on for you but am struggling with. Hope to finish it this week.

Cool!  I've been driving Jacie crazy with terms like cane, shoots, footed arrows, etc!  I will be putting some arrows together for the bow I am making for her - 35-40# Osage, just have to see witch stave wants to be a bow and which one wants to be a walking stick!  Either way, I learn something!
