Title: Christmas for a Grandson
Post by: Knoll on December 16, 2018, 08:33:15 pm
Made grandson's 1st bow few years ago. He's now almost 8 and find myself wincing a bit when he draws it because current draw length is at least an inch more than I tillered it.
So this Christmas he'll be getting new one.
Used lil sliver of hickory that was hiding in shop corner.
17# at 18". 49" ntn, 1" at fade to mid limb then tapers to 1/4" at nock. Cut in shelf. Leather-wrapped handle. Wood beads hanging from handle as bit of decoration. Some reddish wood as tip overlay . . . can rarely remember specie names . . . 🤔 Tru Oil finish . . . 1st time using this stuff, but it won't be the last.
Will try to get pictures of Johnny shooting it on Christmas day!
Thanks for looking.

Very nice Mike. Like Jerry said. He will soon be outgrowing them like a pair of shoes. At least you'll be knowing what to get him for Christmas. Love seeing those kids shooting.

Yeah, I get a bit emotional when building these lil weapons. Wondering how long he/she will hold onto it and what they might remember about the gift and giver.
Am blessed in that, even at this late stage of life cycle, have string of youngun's for which to do these builds. Heck, the youngest just turned 1 !!

nice lil shooter, I'm always impressed what they are capable of.
made some mini bows and kid bows and they are not easy to tiller but I learned a lot making them.
he will like it for sure
