sup guys? i use my side quiver for hunting, but it tends to get hung up on the dense louisiana brush. i think id have the same problem with a back quiver cuz im so tall. any solutions? and i shoot a long bow, so i bow mounted quiver isnt really an option. help plz. ???

At 6' and have no trouble with a back quiver. Though a Plain's style should give you even less, and require less "tuning" to shut it up like back quivers sometimes need. Or you can just carry the spare arrows in your hands like some of the guys here :).
-
tried carrying them. dont like that. what is a planes style quiver?
-
plains style hangs at your side and in front. the arrows are basically right under your arm. it is better than back quivers i think.
-
i perfer hip quiver but i dont hunt in thick brush very often. you could get a bow quiver but theyre expensive
-
thank yall. the planes quiver sounds cool, could someone post a pic?
-
those pictures just posted this week under on of the forums.

sup recurve, the brush is pretty dense here in n tx too, I use a back quiver when hunting, it keeps it from gettin caught in the underbrush, and when i have to crawl or walk under low hanging brush i just swind it around to the front or hand it over one shouklder facing forwards so I can manuver it. To quiet it from ratteling I stuff a couple of rabbirt pelts at the top around the arrows.

there's another nice one by hawkbow, that i can't find right now.
there are loads of them in the arrow section (i believe)

hawkbow acutally made me a few arras. NICE. there aint a storebought arra anywhere thatll shoot like those. the guy knows what he is doing. and i think im gonna modify my hip quiver to a back one. thanx guys.
-
most some pics of your new arras. ;)

gotta get my sis's camera and i will. she dont like me to use it.
-
i use my moms and its hard to get hold of. ;D

I use my homemade sidestalker.....can't be beat! In the Ky woods I haunt, its thick with wait-a-minute vines......and that side stalker just slides on past!
-
here its mostly like chests high briars, shrubs, palmettoes, etc. i need some rawhide then im gonna make my back quiver. 8)

i made a quiver out of raw deer hide. it was fleshed and dried, all i did was rub some wet ashes to "try" and soften it up but all it did was color it. but it can be loud. i put some sheepskin in it. quiet it down. but it is strong and will protect your arrows nicely.
-
Long as it stays pretty dry,it should stay stiff.Gets wet you can stuff it full of newspapers until it dries out. Frank

When you make a back quiver, many of the problems can be solved by: putting some deer skin (with the fur on) hair-side-up in the bottom, making it smaller than some of the store bought ones (holds only about a dozen arrows... not six), and use an adjustable strap (an old belt cut and sewed on so you can re-buckle it to the proper size works best for me). I like raw deer skin, fleshed and stretched. It's stiff, but not hard and thick. Also, sew it into an oval shape, not round. A piece of soft leather sewn around the mouth will quiet andy rattling down.
Such a quiver has served me better than anyhting else I've tried, and is quite appealing to the eye as well ;).
-
yeah it works well, my prob. for my from lack of experience is that its almost flat, i didnt sew it up circular or oval , but shell work for her purpose. ;D

Flat works well too- it's just slightly harder when withdrawing an arrow, and may cause more rubbing of broadheads on each other.
-
oh yeah makes it a bit harder, the arrows bunch up a bit because the strap is a bit off to the side.... mines made out of belt too, just doesnt have the buckle...

For hunting, I like using a plains style quiver, as mentioned earlier. This year, I'm making a quiver and bowcase set from deer hide. For targets, I'll use a back quiver, or just go with whichever quiver I'm using at that time. ;)

sayin i get a deer this year, i think ill make a plains style too sean, look forward to your new quiver and case. ;D

I bought a mini cat quiver this year and really love it. Last year, I hunted with a quiver I made kinda like the GFA quiver. I took an old kwickee quiver and attached an adjustable strap to it. It works really good because you can wear it like a back quiver, or rotate it down to your side when in heavy brush. I like the cat quiver better though because it protects the fletching, but a fletching cover could solve that.
I am planning on making a quiver this year out of elk hide that sortof mimics the mini cat quiver.
-
whats a cat quiver?

I hunt a long way from the vehicle, and butcher and pack most critters in the field. I needed a large pack capable of hauling meat and carrying arrows. I built this one and mounted it to the side of a Flying Circle hydration pack. Works great. In inclement weather I cap the fletching cover with a sandwich baggy.

thats awsome man. i aint ever hunted like that before but i'd love to. in 3 years i'll be 18 and hopefully out of the house, and makeing a week long hunt in the moutians is on the top of my priority list. prolly gonna get one of you guys to go with me, i aint ever hunted the moutians.
-
i would help recurve with your hunt but ill be headed out west for a while guiding, ill be out in a little less than 2 years so if ya wanna come out there you "might" be able to find me! ;D
-
hunting out west is one of my dreams, someday :)
Huntertrapper i lilke your sig. lol
-
nice quiver apex
-
i made a different version of Mickey Lotz Floppy quiver and i absolutely love it!
its a detachable bow quiver and only weighs a few ounces

Although its not one I made myself, my favorite hunting quiver has been the mini CatQuiver. Since living out here in Colorado, I have been doing alot of backpack hunts and the mini catquiver is perfect. I can strap it to my backpack and it protects the feathers from getting crushed or wet from rain/moisture.
I have made several back quivers, but I find they are not very conducive to hunting. My next quiver I make is going to be a "Stalker" style quiver that rides horizontally by your side. I carry my mini cat this way alot, and it is really nice when making a stalk. The thing I like about the cat is that the strap is quickly adjustable, so you can cinch it up tight to your body quickly and quietly

lol, huntertrapper, im a pretty good tracker. i'll be able to find ya. just dunno if it would be worth all the trouble. i'll just crash a powerchute (parachute attatched to a gokart with a box fan on the back of it basicly) somewhere in the moutians with some string and a knife and se how things go. :P
