Here is my first successful bow. It is 60" 47#@28 ( I was shooting for 50#). It was made from a stave my brother cut around 10 - 12 years ago. The overlays are longhorn horn. The handle is my first attempt at a J.D. Jones handle wrap. I had alot of help with the tiller and the overlays at OJAM this year and that is why I named it "New Friends", because of all the great people I met there.

Hi John, good work. "New Friends" looks good.

That looks great John! Looking at the braced profile I can't tell theirs any snakiness to it, tiller looks right on. Took me about eight or twelve bows before I had one that would shoot :-X.
-
John, Your new friends sure helped you make a fine looking bow.
-
Looks great John, I keep my first bow hidden in a dark dank, musty basement ;) :D
Thanks fer sharing.

Notice the wording I use "First successful bow". This is definitely not my first, it is my 3rd. My first is dressed up with sinew and leather, to hide all the flaws, and cracked as soon as I pulled it back the first time. It is a conversation piece in my living room. But without help this one wouldn't have turned out nearly as nice. Thanks for the comments.

Got to be a good feeling. Very nice weapon. And Great Pictures!!
Except for the Full Draw: Look at Marc St. Louis's pictures or snedekers. The full draw ought to be as closeup as possible and emphasing the bow not chin whiskers.
You might post another or send it direct to me @

Oldbow, I changed the full draw pic. Hope this one is better. If not I'll try again. I'm definitely not a photographer.

I agree with Keenan: when I first started making bows, it seemed like every 3 or 4 days I was walking to the sidewalk in front of my house, two broken pieces of bow in my hands...It took quite a few before I could get anything decent out of them.
Nice job!
