I dont know what this stuff is looks like river cane from online pics of seen but I am not sure. I couldn't get closer cause there was no where to park my car.
-
Where do you live? River cane grows to about 15' tall and is about 3/4" in diameter. There are 3 native canes in the US but hundreds of exotics brought in to the US from elsewhere.
-
Down the bayou in Louisiana we call that “roseau” cane, phragmites is the proper name.
-
Looks more like the invasive type of Phragmites. It does make a very good light arrow if prepared properly and cut at the right time.
-
Yeah just went by that area walking not worth it its light and seems not durable. I was hoping it would be good for arrows but not worth the work.
-
It's worth it. It's much tougher when cured.
-
Check out the How To section. Jackcrafty may have a build along using phragmites.
-
I’ll check out the build along and I’ll try to get some tomorrow.
-
Definitely phragmites - we are over run with the stuff in the north woods.
