Title: Yew Deflexed Recurve shallow HLD
Post by: BoltBows on October 15, 2019, 08:50:37 am
What’s up guys, Jaap here.
Wanted to show you one of my latest bows; A recurved deflex model made out local (Dutch) yew. Lately I’ve been putting more effort into my bows, both on tillering as well as grips, slick lines and finishing. In this project I really wanted to go all out and gave myself a challenge. Of course that involved bending  some big curves. To make the bow very comfortable I wanted to make a pistol grip and deflex the handle. To top it off I went for a (shallow) hollow limb design. I love the look of it and it might also add some performance. The handle glue-on and nocks are made of hawthorn (crataegus monogyna). Took me about 60 hours from start to finish. Well it turned out to be one of my finest bows to date! Because of the big curves and length it draws very smoothly and the handle absorbs the little shock it would otherwise have. After a few hundred arrows it shot an average of 175 fps (with 10gpp arrows). Decent in my opinion. Here are some other stats:
NTN length             64’’
Draw Weight             39lbs @ 28’’
String                     8 strand D97 flemish twist
Set im. after shooting   5mm
Finish                     Rigostep Skylt (polyurethane)

Very nice bow, Jaap and quite unlike your bows I'm used to seeing.
Hope to see more of you here on PA.

Awesome job Jaap! I saw this bow in person and it is both a looker and a performer!

Your lines are extraordinary on that bow.  The grip is really something.  There is another bowyer here in the U.S. named Jaap, if there is any confusion.

Sharp looking bow, and that speed seems better than decent to me.

Thank you all for the kind words!!
@ Parnell & Pat B: You might be referring to Jaap Koppedrayer? He's a great guy & bowyer, but I'm another Jaap ;)
