It's been a while since I made a bow with this combination of features. The bow is 64" long and pulls 52#@28". This was a tricky stave because it not only had a crown on the back but there were some isolated humps that came up just in the middle of the width, not on the edges, if that makes sense. So I couldn't just follow the back with a flat belly or the edges would have been razor thin in those spots. I decided to hollow out the belly so I could faithfully follow all of the contours and get all the areas bending. The bottom limb didn't need to be hollowed out very much because the crown was relatively mild. Had the whole stave been like that I probably would have skipped the HLD. The top limb has some pretty deep spots where the humps on the back are. I gave the stiff outer limbs a bit of reflex for a little extra kick. I backed it with kangaroo rawhide to provide some security given the knots in the stave and covered the transition with a cane wrap. The handle wrap is tanned beaver tail with roo lace and the tip overlays are trusty old buffalo horn. The string is D97 with mink fur silencers and the finish is tru oil.

Beautiful bow Weylin. That kangaroo rawhide goes so good with that Yew. It just looks like it belongs there. The grain in that Yew is beautiful and of course the tiller is right on.

Very unique, and a pleasure to look at. Is that a crysall in the one picture or just a scratch?

I freaked out when I saw that in the picture and I quickly grabbed the bow to check it out. Turns out it was just a rogue strand of contact cement from when I added the handle wrap. ::) ;D

In one picture the humpy limb looks to have a delaminatin between growth rings.
If so, how did you take care about this.

It looks more worriesome than it turned out to be. there is no physical separation, just some discolored wood. It's just as solid as the surrounding wood. I soaked it with superglue just in case and then carried on. It hasn't shown any sign of acting differently.

Can't hurt to have an extra function for survival purposes. It can double as a kayak paddle in a pinch.

Another fine bow Weylin . Arvin
