I'm starting a Plum Recurve. It has about a 1" dogleg in the last 8". Right where i want to recurve it. I know I can custom build a caul to hold it in two directions at once but I just wondered if anyone had a clever idea for bending it that didn't mean a custom caul. I'm getting so many cauls and jigs you'd think I could reuse one but they rarely work for two applications. I've already steamed the dogleg out but that will go back as soon as I start to steam the recurve. I want to use fairly aggressive recurves so the caul needs room to accommodate a strap.

You could screw a bit of 2x6 onto it in the right area as a temporary fence and hen remove it after you’re done

Thanks you got me thinking in the right direction :D

DC, I use a C-lamp that I modified slightly for situations like what you described. I took a file and squared off the rounded inside corner of the clamp. When placed over the limb and tightened down on the side of the caul, a simple wood wedge driven in will easily move your limb. Quick, easy and simple...……...Art

I should have mentioned that I leave an 1/8" gap between the clamp and bow to add another wedge to tighten up the bow to the caul after I have things aligned. In other words, the side of the bow and it's belly gets a wedge...….Art
