I've read about those and in conjunction with whistling arrows. The whistling shot at flying ducks sounds like a hawk so the ducks hit the water and the skipping arrows are used to shoot the ducks off the water.

Cool, I've heard about this. It looks like there was a lot of paddling involved in testing it. The whistling arrow video came up right after it.
