Title: Pictures from my bathtub
Post by: osage outlaw on July 22, 2020, 01:50:54 pm
I'm getting some interesting pictures at my re-purposed bathtub water hole.  So far the run off from the rain has been keeping it almost full.  I trapped several coons that were keeping the deer away.  Now a new one showed up and it looks pretty pale.  I'm going to wait until winter to try to trap that one so I can tan the hide.   A bobcat and 5 babies cross the driveway today.  I hope they find the water hole so I can get pictures of them.

Everyone heading to the watering hole. Lots of cool critters, especially the blond coon. Watch out for mosquitoes. Maybe put a few fish in the tub to keep the skeeters at bay.

Pat, I put a mosquito dunk tablet in it every 30 days.  Its supposed to kill the larva.

It's become a little hot spot for activity.   Just so happens to be 15 yards from a tree stand.

Is that considered baiting?  ;D

I read somewhere that a piece of copper in the water will oxidize and kill the mosquitoes larves

No.  I checked with a C.O.  he said as long as I don't add any flavoring to the water it's not baiting.  It's the same as building a small pond.

Didn’t take to long for the critters to start using it. Good job repurposing for sure.

Is he an albino?

No.  It has color pigment, just not the normal amount.  It looks like his black eye mask is the normal black color.  It would look good hanging in my archery room.

He may have a degree of leucism, varying degrees of partial loss of pigmentation in an animal.

Now that's a cool coon. You think the coons keep deer away ??

They don't keep them away for good.  But I have trail camera pictures of coons keeping deer off of a corn pile while they were eating.  I just don't want anything making the deer cautious about approaching that water hole.  I want them nice and relaxed when I drop that string.
