Have an Osage longbow I made and want to pretty up the back. I need some longer length snake skins for it. The bow itself is 70” long. Anyways I have back sinew and a rabbit skin For trade.
-
How much sinew do you have?
-
Well I’ve got about 8 back straps of antelop, 4 deer back straps, 12 or 13 elk leg sinew. I’ve also got turkey feathers to trade
-
Does the skin need to go all the way, or are you gonna cut it so the handle can stay open, or do a handle wrap?
-
Was going to cut it at the handle and splice it. Then wrap the handle. I really should have put this in the original text box. I’m sorry.
-
Ok. so you need a skin closer to 65?
-
I'm going to have to excuse myself from the trade. I just checked my snake skin stash only to find my dog.... ate them. About 500 dollars in skins. Gone. Luckily he didn't get to all of them. Unless you are interested in some timber rattlers, I dont have anything to trade.
-
Two skins that are 35” long will do. I planed to join them in the handle and then cover the handle with a handle. I’m sorry to hear about what your dog did. My pit got into my stash of elk sinew a few weeks ago. Chewed up half of my supply. I was actually wanting some timber rattler skins. Let me know
-
I will measure them later on today and see what they come to.
-
I need to soak them to lay them flat right now they are shrivled up like beef Jerry, but I measure them at 31 and 32. Id imagine they will stretch another inch to be closer to 33.
-
You want to put them on wet. Clean well with dish detergent and warm water, rinse well, blot off excess water and they are ready to glue up.
If you can find a timber rattler long enough you can cover 2 limbs by cutting in half lengthwise. Timber rattlers usually even have a center line to cut along. :OK

Those are perfect! I can apply a dye to the back of the bow where the snake skin ends to the tips. I had to shorten the bow to gain some weight so it’s 66” now.

Ok. They are yours then. How much sinew are you willing to trade for them?
