My fire will be lit everyday to cook. Thurs to Sun

Dick, I'll be riding with Alan and he said if he didn't shoot then he would spend the weekend cooking. I'm sure we'll work something out. Pat
-
Is anyone bringing a tillering tree to Hickory or planning on working on bows there?
I didnt see anyone working on bows last year but may have missed it.
Reason I ask is I'm stuck. Hit a wall. I have this really snaky piece of sage. I have her bending about 30 lbs at approx 10 inches. Haven't braced it yet. It is my first snaky bow and I am having a really hard time telling where it is bending and where it isnt. worse part is that it is twisty side to side as well as belly to back... and even throws a side twist in one limb. Rings are huge tho. Crazy part is one limb is snaky other is pretty straight. Seems the snaky limb is bending better...
Its a project in itself. took me 3 heat treats to get the string to line up and introduce some reflex.
Just thought some more experienced eyes than mine might be able to offer some pointers.

I will have all my tools and stuff there. I will help ya however I can. I will have a knotty piece of osage to work on. ;D
-
I'll have my bowyers bench and a bucket of tools. If I can remember to ask my friend, I can get a portable tree from him...if I remember. ;D I'm sure we could figure something out anyway. We are primitive archers! ;D 8) Pat
-
There's already a tillering tree down there. We used this one last year, and we left it there. ;D

We need pics of this event!!
-
Your wish is my command!!! Oh Great One. You want pics, you'll have them. O:) Pat
-
Pat, I will also bring my draw horse and tools if anyone needs it. I will also bring my bow rack to store bows. BTW I saw mentioned that we may be able to get into the property on Thursday. Is this so? I would have time to help set up if that is the case. And yes Calendargirl, I will also take a ton of photos.
Dick

Dick
last year They told me if you were a vendor or if you came early to help set up they would let you come in on Thurs.
-
Thanks for the responce. Computer has been down for a week. Well I think I will try for Thursday.
Dick
-
We ought to be there by noon on Friday. Alan has steaks hes bringing and his cooker. He has a smoker he can bring if needed. He is also bringing his 10x20 portable car port.
We all ought to set up camp together. I usually set up on the top of the hill to the right of the road that goes by the showers. Pat
-
It'll probably be about 3 or so Fri before I get there. Cody wants to come, and he has a 1:30 dismissal from school that day.
-
I will be there Thurs around noon. I am going to try and set up beside that old building just down from the showers. I believe we camped right across the road from you last year Pat.
T.J.
-
Pat, are we going to set up a pop-up canopy like last year. Don't remember who had it. I have a 10 x 10 and I will bring it in case we need it. I will set up in the same area as last year. OK? Should be there around 10 or 11am Thursday to help.
Dick
-
Dick, Alan is bringing his 10'x20' awning. Your 10x10 might come in handy also...as a cooking tent, etc. Pat
-
OK, I'll bring it along with my propane barbeque and a couple of tables. We can set it all up when you guys get there Friday.
Dick
-
Ya Killin' me! Sure wish I could make it up this weekend. Ya'll have fun, and see you in two weeks Steve.

TJ, I should be there between 10 and 11am. I will unload in the spot, if available, where Pat, Allen and I were last year. I think that was about opposite where you were.
Dick

Sounds good to me I will see you there. All goes weel I hope to arrive around the same time as you. I am bringing my parents this year so It might take me a little longer.

With constant reminders from Dick and a few others I finally brought out my camera and took a few pics. This weekend was a blast. Lots of folks showed up and fun was had by all. I've been a member of CTA for many years and this has been one of my favorite shoots to attend each year. Its like coming home....I'll describe each in a bit. Pat

I see a lot of familiar faces there. Tell everyone I said "Hi". Looks like a good time. Maybe some day I'll have reason to travel through those parts at the same time it's going on.

TJ, I can't take all the credit(blame) for our camp. There were others involved. 8) It was good seeing you again and meeting your wife, Mom and Dad. I look forward to the end of July(25, 26, 27). Try to drag Bobby's butt over with you. 8) Pat
-
Ok let me rephrase that. That picture is of where Pat camped not Pats camp. Hillbilly,Dick ,Cody,Allen, and a few others I do not remember also camped there.
Pat thank you for the cane shafts and the advice on everything I asked you.
Hope to see you in July.
-
Had a Blast guys. cool to hang out with you all. Good food, good company, and good times.
Didnt end up taking any pics at all... dang it. was a delinquent I guess.
But enjoyed the heck out of myself. Thanks all for letting this green horn pick yer brains dry... got anything left>?

Thanks for posting the pics, I took a camera and was so busy having fun all weekend that I forgot to take any. Had a great time hanging out with everybody, shooting, knapping, eating, and shootin' the bull. Good to see everybody again, hope to see y'all again at Pat's.
-
Hillbilly thanks for the advice on knapping. It helped out a bunch.
-
Maybe Dick will post some pics. He was on me all weekend about me taking pics. ::) Pat
-
What is all this business about "too busy to take pics" etc... Did you NOT get my instructions? >:(
We want PICS! ;D
-
Marie, I'm downloading them now. ::) Have to go out for an hour or so. Will post 15 or 20 of them when I get back. ;D
Dick
-
Rut-ro...the queen is all fuzzed up :o At least I haven't heard "Off with their heads!" yet......... ;D
-
I will try and name these as I go along. What we got here is:
TJ (Nugget) explaining the fine points of a narrow canoe/bow paddle
Allen, Patrick and Tom contemplating. Really ???
Pat explaining to Hillbilly how to take off that really BIG flake. ;)
PatB explaining the fine points of life to little Hillbilly (Cody) ???
Hillbilly and Tom at parade rest
TJ, PatB, Hillbilly and Cody. I had to put up with this crew for three days. :'(
More comming.

Looks like yall had a big time, wished I could be in 2 places at once. :)
Pappy

Here is the "more"
PatB doing what he does best, raiding the food table. :-[
Becca, quill worker extraordinary, and the wife of James Parker, I think he flint knaps ;D, complementing Allen on the food, AND the abundance of it. Thanks Allen for the fine cooking.
Hillbilly getting ready to clobber Dick for that last comment. >:(
PatB contemplating the duality of it all. Talk about a guy stuck in the 60's Jezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! ???
TJ trying to deny "he did not do it". >:D We do not know what "it" was but I am guessing he had too many bowls of Amy's chicken/sausage cacciatore. Man that stuff is good. :P
Pat doing whatever Pat does. Hey just what is "it" he does. I know what it is---he is in too many photos.
Hey, we had a good time with good people. The time really goes by fast. It is always a good shoot when you do not break or loose an arrow and shoot a decent score. I got to "almost" finish my latest composite bow and to try out my newly redesigned tapper tool for arrow shafts. Did two dozen in less than 30 minutes. See you all at PatB's in July and if not then, next year in Hickory.

Ah-ha this is where I should have posted that post of mine that got moved all over the forums and wound up here (a few posts above, or below ("Near Miss"). I got to meet Hillbilly finaly also N2evrythg, and I saw Nugget a few times but we never got introed. I think we even talked a time or two but didn't tumble to who the other was. I was down to "Pat's Camp"to pick up my box of wood from him. Knew most of the group in the pics from two years ago and got to meet Dick Bernier - also finally. Great bunch, and they know how to camp out, for sure. I'll be seeing most all of you again (some at ATAR perhaps), good Lord willing.
-
who is giving who pointers? ??? think it was the other way round as I remember it. :) I was just making little tiny rock chips...
N2
-
can't believe you guys/gals are passing up the opportunity to comment on my camo kilt! should be interesting chasing hogs in it in a couple weeks. eddie and steve, if ya'll want one for the hog hunt i can give my taylor's info.
-
Chris, we were actually being nice for once and not talking about your man-dress. O:) But since you brought it up............... ::) ;D
-
See there - I didn't even dare ask who he was - and missed another guy from here - LOL. Actually I didn't even think about it , Mechslasher, since there is one who comes to the Baltimore shoot every year in a kilt, at least one of the days. It did surprise me to see a camo one though. That other guy (nice young chap) wears a high quality black one, from Scotland. To each his own and if it's comfortable, more power to you, or anyone else who wears kilts.
-
Well as Hillbilly said we were being respectfull? ??? of Chris's decision to go "cool" 8).
Dick
-
Hey Mechslasher - kilts rock! Were you wearing a camo Utilikilt? I saw someone there with one, I was thinking he was working/running one of the vendors tents. I have a OD/brownish Utilikilt that I wear to the highland games. Love a kilt - super comfortable and addictive to wear.
-
hunts, i can't afford a utilikilt just yet. this one is a grody goose made from recycled bdu's. they are only $50 and wear great. can't wait to try it out on out upcoming hog hunt.
-
I'm glad you're wearing it when we go hog hunting-I bet I can run faster in britches than you can in that skirt ;D ;D
-
All I can say is I don't want to see anything hanging out while we are in the golf cart. And when it comes to crawling through those Blackberry bushes and wild rose, bloodtrailing, I want to be ahead of you so I know which blood trail I'm following.
-
Well, that all looked like a blast. Gonna have to take a season off work one year and hit em all - looks like I really missed out :'(.
-
Hey Chris did you make the Kilt? I wanna get me one of those. Be nice and cool in the summer 8). If you did not make it ,where did you get it?
Now that would be a sight , my big ol self in a kilt . I think I can pull it off ;)
-
Yea TJ, but can you put it on! ;D Pat
-
If I had one my size I sure would.
-
:o ::)
-
I can do it! ;D
-
Remember Gentlemen, This is a family friendly shoot at Hickory ;D
With Nugget in a kilt :o and if Pat B's friend wore that breechcloth again :o I don't know what natural laws would be broken.
Peace
-
One of my biggest worries is trying to knap with a kilt on ??? That is not a place I want to get a sliver of rock
-
TJ, If you will notice, most of those guys take their shoes off before knapping. Must be something to that!...and I'm surely not suggestion anything else. :o ;) Pat
-
Well I reckon if the dudes who invented knapping did not have very good footwear or much in protection for clothing either. So if they could do it so can I. :o
Chris never did say were he got the kilt did he?
-
TJ, I think he said something about Victoria's Secret. ;D ;D
-
Nice one Hillbilly ;D . I want to make it as correct as possible, so no one will have anything to say when I wear it.
Well on second thought yall will be hootin and hollerin either way ! :o
So I guess i am wanting to make a properly fashioned kilt is what I was tryin to say.
Before it is all said and done I will !
T.J.
-
TJ, I think this occasion, The premier of the kilt, will inspire people the obtain digital cameras and record this historic event. :o Could be history in the making. ??? Just don't know if "I" would want to make that kind of history. ;D . This could get interesting. :o Just think, "The order of the Kilt" 8) PA "Archers" defining a new code of dress. Chris and TJ, the Kilt twins. ;) How about that.
Dick
-
Wonder what the Scots would have to say about all this :D Probably, "Good show, Yanks!" ;D
-
Ment to show this off earlier but just got around to it.
Steve (hillbilly) knapped out this really nice beautiful point while we were up there chipping on some obsidian. Man he does nice work. Thanks much for the point steve. And thanks much for the instruction... learned a lot. I will have the point on a shaft really soon and hopefully put it to good use.
Enjoy.

That is a nice point Wade/ Steve! Aught to kill anything it connects with :).
-
Go forth and kill. ;D >:D
-
That really is a pretty one, HB - but then you already knew that didn't you - LOL.
