I love the convenience of using this method for stringing my wood longbows. It seems that it is putting more stress on the lower limb. Anyone experience this?
-
Broke my first ever, made it myself, longbow the other day doing just that.It may have failed for some other reason later down the line anyway, but I am going to use my stringer for a while anyway, especially on my second,I made it myself, longbow that I am building right now. Good luck ! Frank

Put your hand at the upper part of the handle or just above it and give it a try. Your best bet is a stringer. Pat

I never use a stringer. If I can I use the push pull and have never had the problem of over-stressing the lower limb
-
I've been using the push-pull method to string my longbows for years and have never had a problem.
-
I have no problems stringing bows like this either, and never have.
-
Is better to use the push pull method over the step through method? I always use the step through because thats how i was taught.
-
I have never used a stringer on any of my longbows. No problems so far. Push pull takes a bit of practice, but is totally safe, in my opinion. Make sure the bottom string loop is in the nock properly first. Place the bottom nock on the floor inside your left arch (for right hand), more towards your heel, then it doesn't hurt your foot so much. The back of the bow should be facing towards you. Pull with your left hand, towards your left hip, elbow bent. Push the string up the top limb with your right index finger and thumb, until it slips into the top nock. Make sure it's in place before you let off. Keep your right arm straight. LOOK AWAY while you're doing this. if you slip, you're going to get the bow in the face. I've seen more than one shiner from bow stringing! It's all by feel.

I advise push/pull. The warranty on my bows is void if you use step through.
-
push-pull; no probems on my longbows.
-
Why is the push pull method better than the step through method?

Why is the push pull method better than the step through method?
less chance of twisting a limb.
-
ive got a question then, what is the best to string a recurve?
-
On a recurve, a stringer. Have seen guys do push pull on a recurve, but man!!! it was scarry.
-
thats good to know,i just aquired an old bear black panther recurve from and older guy that i work with and wasnt real sure the best method of string it,tried the step thru and found that difficult on a recuve unlike my long bow.thanks again.
i knew i asked the right people ;D

On a recurve, ALWAYS a stringer.
-
I still don't use a stringer with a recurve but i would recommend it to someone that has little experience with bows
-
I have a lifetime of experience with bows, but I still use a stringer with recurves. Sooner or later, you'll break a tip with push/pull on a recurve. i found this out... the hard way.

I am with Marc...If you feel safer with a Stringer....go for it....I myself was not taught with one...and have never used one before either.... I feel comfortable with either other Method of Stringing my Bows
