Title: Shipping Help
Post by: akbowman on May 07, 2008, 01:05:00 pm
Well a few of you really helped to point me in the right direction to find some Osage here in Indiana. Thanks for the help.

So now that i got 3 Good pieces (at least i think they are good) of Osage, any Ideas on how to get them back to Alaska?
Has anyone shipped any wood like that? Any ideas would be appriciated.

I have shipped tons of it from Michigan ....back here to Texas....and I have always just cut them to length....make sure that you stay under their weight limit....and wrap the Staves in News Paper...and Duct Tape the Crap out of them....and Mail them USPS Ground or Post...they have no problems taking your Money for sending them!!!

Make sure the ends are sealed good before you ship. It can check real bad in the climate change of shipping if you don't.  Justin

Shipping to Alaska shouldn't be a problem.  If you reduce the staves to almost bow size you can wrap them together(maybe individually first to protect them a bit), wrap in paper and liberal amounts of packing take. This will reduce the shipping weight. I have shipped staves with just tape on them and have recieved staves with just a lable taped on them.
Check out the USPS shipping size to keep costs down.      Pat

I usually just wrap 'em in several layers of Saran wrap and chunk 'em in the mail.

As long as you stay under the USPS 81" rule no extra fees due,but go over 81" and it gets scary from there, Good Luck!

81 inches total....Length X Girth......simple....measure the length...and the measure around the Package....both added together have to be 81 inches or under....or it's a extra large Package
