Title: heath treating elm bow
Post by: Jjpso on March 17, 2021, 11:41:35 am: hello there! I am doing a sinew backed elm recurve.
its around 56 inches long, with small recurves, 2 inches fades and 4 inches handle. hoping for 50-55 pounds at 25 inches draw!
i heath treated it after steaming in the recurves, and got it bending pretty even (I got it to my target weight at 19 inches draw) but with tillering the majority of the heath treated wood got scraped! would you heath treat it again before sinewing?! because after is not an option...:)

Post by: gutpile on March 17, 2021, 04:31:02 pm: you will retill after sinewing also... If back is good enough to get bending to 20" and braced.. then heat treat.. then sinew... then retill.. both will add poundage too... gut

If you scrape it all off you can and probably should re-do it.
