I haven't been able to find much info as far as how to mix up Knox glue. what ratio of water to powder, and do I need to heat it like normal hide glue?

just heat it like normal glue, Bowanarrow has a formula, I cant remember it,,
I have always just mixed till I get the thickness I want,,but Im sure if you message him he would help,,

Start thick, and thin slowly, I think. If you mess up, it is edible -C- (lol) :fp!

ok Fox,Im starting a sinew bow today,, got the glues melted and gonna put the first layer on, where are you at,,

I used Knox gelatin for the first time last year. I think the water:powder ratio was about 1:1 for a fairly thick slurry. You can fine tune it from there to whatever consistency you desire.
Yes, it needs to be heated. I used a washed out tuna can floating in the water in the pot to smooth out the heating of the glue. After I was done I covered the tuna can and put it in the freezer to keep. I have used it once since then and it worked fine with no noticeable ill effects from being frozen.

If you end up too thin you can just let it simmer in the pot for a while and it will thicken up as the moisture evaporates off.
