Drove out of my way to a job site for this rock. The best stuff seems to be the dark red, the stuff with the clear bands is super tough. I got this from the st.louis area.

if you heat treat that stuff i bet it will be niiiiiice!
kinda reminds me of jasper a little. at least the dark red stuff
-
The stuff I've tried so far has been really nice, no heat treat required. That crystal stuff though makes me cringe even thinking about knapping without heat
-
I’m certainly not expert. I was kinda guessing same as Russell. It reminds me of jasper, but that’s not saying it is.
Look forward to seeing what you can do with it.

So far I can break it in half : ( a guy down here said it's crescent chert which is apparently a form or Burlington but he wasn't sure either

I think he was right and it is Crescent Chert. Some of the lighter colors, if heat treated, will turn beautiful yellow and reds. Bring some to Mojam so we can see it up close.
Mojam is getting close! I will be there Sunday.

Right now it's all still in the bed of my truck lol so maybe I'll bring the whole load.
