Thought I would share this bow I finished up. The hickory was cut on my property and under dense canopy. I counted over 100 rings and it was only about 8" in diameter. Anyway, here it is.
68" NTN
2" wide at fades
56lb @ 27"
Osage orange tip overlays
I was really happy I lucked out with a knot and some heart wood in the handle.

More pictures.

Looks good, have you been at this a while?
A close up of the ring count/grain would be nice.

Looks like a hunter to me, nice work

Nice bow! Looking forward to seeing more in the future!

Nice! Sounds like pretty dense wood. Should make a good hunter!

That bow looks like a real work horse. The heartwood handle is very good looking. Welcome to PA.

I have been at this for about 2 years now. The bug really started last spring when my son asked me to get/make him a bow. The thought really started about 6 years ago when I cut a bunch of hedge at my brother's house. It was something I had heard about and always wanted to try so I saved the wood. That wood sat until last year and I made a few successful bows with it and learned a lot. Most of the wood ended up too twisted and knotted for my, then, skill set to make anything out of it. I am glad to have joined the forum..
I have visited the site for a while trying to learn and figured I would finally jump in. Now, I definitely have the bug and fortunately in MO I have plenty of hardwoods all around me to experiment with. My son just finished his bow too ( I may have helped some lol).

Nice job!

Very nice hickory bow. Good job. God bless

Very nice bow. I love hickory. It’s my go to wood. Welcome to PA. I’m new here too and you are among friends here!

Did you steam bend or oil bend your tips?
-
Nice bow. Good to see new bowyers coming onto this great site.

Welcome. Very nice looking bow. Sounds like you’re a fast learner. Should be a meat getter for sure.

I steamed and did a slight bend. I have had trouble with hickory trying to get steep curves and I fail every time. This one worked out perfect though. It turned out to be a much harder shooting bow than expected. Really happy with it.
Thanks for all the words of encouragement!

Very nice all around. The heartwood handle and fades really pop.good job and welcome to the forum and addiction.

That’s a very looking bow you have built. The Osage tips are nice but I love the heartwood handle. Did you darken up the handle any or is it all natural color?
It’s quite a nice feeling to make a bow from wood cut on your own property, isn’t it?

That's the natural color. Finish is linseed oil/urethane mix. It definitely is nice. With the storms this year, I had a persimmon blow over so I'm going to try it once dry. I have tons of bush honeysuckle too that I am still experimenting with. Several are 3 to 5" in diameter. Seems like springy wood but I think I overstrained the last one and it exploded lol.
