I’ve hacked out 2 of my interpretation of the Sudbury bow. One is hickory stave that’s been cut awhile but still at 15%. I’ll let it get lower before I start on it. The other is hackberry that I cut today. Be a bit on that one.
I’m not sure how to tiller these. My plan is to start at the tips and work slowly inward.
All tips, warnings, criticism,etc welcomed.

Weylin Olive put together a sticky thread on photographing and also posting pictures to this site using a photo hosting site. It’s a little bit of work but the results are way better. Its 3rd from the top of the “bows” section.

From the fall of 2014 through spring of 2015 I made 6 Sudbury style bows all from Hickory. I made the first one as close to the original as possible. It felt spongy at the riser ,and limb heavy, so I shortened ,and narrowed, and thinned the limbs on the rest. They were all 60, to 62 inches long. When done each had 1 to 2 inches of set, but better suited my 25 draw length. They are nice looking bows when finished , but have nothing on a good pyramid designed hickory bow, so I never built another one. I used a gizmo to tiller mine.

I like the pyramid style. I’ve built 7 bows this summer on that style. Just wanted to do something different.

I'm a little late to the party here, and I'm no expert on tillering, but I love sudburys and I've build a couple. I make the tips fairly narrow and just a bit stiff, slightly "eifel towered" from the wide mid limb. I tiller it so it looks about right. How's that for scientific?

Got the hickory done last week. I just started filleting cautiously and it come out great. After shooting it in its 45 lb at 26”. I really like it but as said above it has nothing on a good pyramid bow. But it is something different. Doing the final sanding on my Mollegabit now

Let us see some Pics. Length ,width, and thickness, unstrung profile ,and full draw, nad whether it has a working riser, or non working riser etc.

I haven’t took any pics yet. Bow is 64” to the tips. Widest part of the limb is 10” from center of the handle. 4” handle that is 1-1/8” front to back and 7/8” wide. Straight taper from the end of the handle to the widest part of the limb. Straight taper from there to 1/2” wide at the nock. Thickness at nock =1/2” , wide part of limb=1-3/4” x 9/16” at 2” from end of handle = 1-1/4” wide by 11/16” thick.
It doesn’t bend through the handle at my 26” draw. I suspect it would with a longer draw.
It’s pretty average on speed, pushing a 550 gr arrow 140 FPS. Once again it would go faster with a longer draw.
Started out at 52 lb at 26 but is now at 45 lb. very pleasant to shoot and seems very forgiving.
I like it a lot.
