Title: Grateful for a day in the shop
Post by: rps3 on February 03, 2022, 12:40:13 pm
Between watching 8 grandkids, work, and other duties, I'm always grateful for a day in the shop. I imagine many of you feel the same.
Just chased a ring on a challenging piece of osage while waiting for the glue to dry on the tips of a hackberry.

That looks like some of the staves I've had lately. Good luck.   :OK

Agree, always grateful for shop time. I also agree that's going to be a tricky stave to tiller.

I've got plenty of nicer stave's, but for some reason I keep reaching for the difficult ones. Thanks for the encouragement, and I will post finished pictures.

Man I thought I had some 2nd rate wood. I never would dream of trying a stave like that. I admire anyone who tackles such a project. Will be following along to the end for sure. Good luck, can’t wait to see what you can accomplish.

Always a goo day when you can spend it in the shop, good luck on the stave, It's like Gary Davis use to tell me, " new people wanting to build a bow can't find one straight and clean enough, then after a few they can't find on twisted and knotty enough " I went through that and still like a challenging one now and then but not as much as I use to. :) I will be watching this one and see how it goes. ;)

That sounds about right Pappy.

Here it is after some steam and dry heat.

I love my time in my bow shop. Looks like you are off to a great start on that challenging character stave. Look forward to following this to completed bow.

Shop days are the best.  My dog agrees.  It's just comfortable.

What, a WHOLE DAY, no list, no interruptions, no ‘can you just pop in and help me for a second?’  Never had one, did get 45 minutes once but then I was on edge just waiting for a small person to run into the shop, sounds like it might be nice though

I just lay down some newspapers and put my small person on the floor of the shop with box of popsicle sticks and a hot glue gun, and tell her to build something.  That's good for at least an hour or two of relative silence.  ha ha

Looking good!  Been a mite cool here the last few days, temperature around zero F, and wind chill around -20
to -25F.  Have to build a fire in the wood stove to thaw out the firewood! (lol) :fp!

Another great day in the shop, and I am getting somewhere on this less than perfect stave. The top limb on the right has a more deflex reflex shape to it.
