This is a nice little 60" rawhide backed Cedar bow I just finished. It is 35# @ 25" . It's for my friends wife. She shot my wifes bow last year and has wanted one ever since. So here it is. ENJOY!

I told her the only way she could have it is if she went to the Hickory shoot this weekend. ;) Either way i am going to try and deliver it tonight or tomorrow.

Allright nugget - man that cedar is some pretty wood, she's gonna love it :).

That's a beauty, TJ. I haven't tackled that cedar stave i traded you out of yet, but that gives me incentive. Done anything with the locust yet?
-
that's an extraordinarily pretty bow!
-
Hillbilly, I made a bow out of the locust already. I gave it to my brother for his birthday.
Thanks guys for the comments

Nice bow, TJ. Will she be bringing it to Hickory? If so maybe someone can get a pic without her knowing it. >:D Pat
-
Unfortunately due to conflicting work schedules she will not be attending.
I am going to try and sneak a picture or 2 myself . ;)
-
Wow that's gorgeous! Excellent job! Man I LOVE the grain lines in that stuff; it closely resembles yew. OK you tree experts, are they related? I can only imagine so.
Who cares, I LOVE that bow!
Nice work.

Thanks guys . Cadar is very fast for it's weight
-
Great looking bow. That cedar does make a fast bow.
What did you use to glue the rawhide on ?
-
TiteBond3. Good stuff

Very nice bow . I have a question though. I have a stave but there is an 1 1/2" of sap wood before you get to the heart wood. Do you just chase a ring down the back leaving about say a 1/2 inch of sap wood for the back and then the belly is heart wood. Or would it be better to use the heart wood for the back and the sap wood for the belly 'like the original holmie's Just wonder if that sap wood would stand up for a back without backing.
-
I have not been able to chase a ring on Cedar. Not sAYing it can't be done. But I do not think it can be done ;D. Just try and keep it as even as possible when you start cutting the sap wood. Then back it with something.
Good luck
-
Very pretty bow ! Is that Eastern Red Cedar ? I bet it's a dream to work with......
-
That is gorgeous - color, tiller and all. Bookmarked for Self BOM, too.
-
Thanks Nugget. I was afraid someone was going to say that.I may try and split it from the end on a test piece with a knife as per the way Thimo does his stave edges to Shape em up.
-
Yes John it is Eastern Red Cedar, and it is very nice to work
-
It's hard to get the heartwood/sapwood line chased on cedar, too because the junction between them often varies between several rings-one growth ring may be part sapwood and part heartwood.
-
On that same note, That is also what gives cedar its nice variations in color
