Title: Tried a Boo backed Static Recurve
Post by: wytetale on May 22, 2008, 08:45:32 pm
My dads been wanting to do one of theese for a while but we have been busy with other bows. Well he got the form made and built a couple. The first was a learning experience heating and bending the tips. This is some pics of the second one. It is sweet, I was amazed at how it shoots. I dont have a chronograph but I know it is faster than my R/D longbow that We built. This bow is made of Argantine Osage and a Bacote riser and power strip. Its also a Tri-lam. 50# at 28". 60" NTN

A very nice looking bow. You tillered that one out very well.  Static recurves are about my favorite style of bow and their performance is hard to beat

You rule! Ditto everyone else's praise.
Question, though. This is described as a "static recurve".  I asked this question several years ago. What is making it static? It looks like the tips are uncoiling, thus working.

well, i agree, too...but except for the siyahs of composite bows i always believe to see them unfolding, so i didn't ask...  ;D ;D ;D

I have always saw them posted as static recurve. So what would you post it as or what should I call the bow ? Would it just be considered a recurve. What do you think?

It looks like a recurve to me, and a very nice one at that!

This is an awesome bow.  I love the tri-lam construction.  That makes so much sense to put that lam under the bamboo, sandiwiching the osage between the riser and the top lam.  The handle is beautiful, the arrow shelf well placed and strong-looking.  Excellent recurve-tight radius.  I love the tip overlays and the tiller.  Great work all around.

nice looking bow. I'd say those curve are pretty static. They don't apear to be bending to me. Its bending right up to the curve.

Can you give more detail about how you built the bow? Especially how you got the bamboo to sit into those curves? Interested as I fancy trying a similar but slightly more extreme bamboo backed bamboo recurve.
