Now that I have the raw hide on the Osage bow what is the best finish? I have true oil , spray can lacquer. Also I want to dye the back maybe green or red. Suggestions?

Aniline dye and TruOil both work great on rawhide. Here’s one I did, fading red to black.
-
I like that!

Tru-Oil works great on rawhide and a quick spray of satin poly over that to cut the shine if you want a dull finish.
-
I use tru oil also, works great. :)

True oil it will be . I will post pics when she is finished.

Same for me here on tru oil. Works good to seal up. I then also use a satin spray polyurethane or the like. I like this one it dries pretty hard and seem pretty clear. Worked good for me over the tru oil on hide too. Here’s one I did earlier this year on a yew bow. I just used a small paint brush and use fiebings alcohol based leather dye. Let it dry really well before putting your finishing coats on as the leather dye will effect the drying of your finishes. FYI.

Stick heads way makes a bow go from so, so to beautiful. Will B. uses that combo a lot with excellent results.

All done. Just the raw hide back did not hold it I had to raw hide rap the spot also. To bad it did turn out nice.you can also see the trapping I did on the bow.

Still looks great Arvin! Did the hide slow it down any?
-
No Dave I don’t think so it was a 39 # bow before and after. I did trap it a bit more . Just a great shooting bow and I did not want to give up on it.

It looks great. I have bows with wraps that I have been shooting since the 90s. Enjoy that puppy! :OK
-
I agree with Bob. Looks great Arvin. Sounds like it shoots great. Enjoy
