Title: Sneak Peek At My Next Project
Post by: El Destructo on May 24, 2008, 01:47:49 pm
Well while the Sinew is drying on my Cupids Bow I started a Month ago....I started on a New Project.... Project Hupa......it's 60" instead of 56" for my Draw Length.... so far it is 2 1/2" wide at the widest part.....Mid Limb.......1 1/4" wide and 1 1/4" thick at the Handle......The Limbs are Lenticular in Shape....all the way to the 3/8" Pin Nocks ....that I plan on Bending and Sinew Wrapping like My Pony Bow was done....so far I have it Floor Tillered to about 6-7 inches of Bend....but I believe that I have a ways to go....it feels like about 90 pounds right now....and that is way Crazy....Manny you would be proud of Me on this one....Rasp....Scraper....and a bunch of Sand Paper.....I don't know if I can ever get it to flow like Manny's Bows do....but I am going to take it slow and easy...and let the Wood do the talking

Well I damned near had a Major Catastrophe tonight....I was Tillering the Bow on the Long String....working it between scraping....and I heard a Click....and then the String started to give....I let it down really fast....and just in time too....the Tiller String core broke and it damned near had a Come Apart on me!!! I quit for the Night....I think that this is the Safe thing to do!!!

so you cut temporary nocks in for the long string, i guess?   I do that too, but i'm thinking about making a long string with a couple leather bags on the ends...make a few of different lengths to accomondate various bow sizes...glad you didn't get popped or have your bow fly apart on you, man.

Dana wins da Prize....It's Birdseye Maple from Marquette County in Upper Michigan...My Brother used to work for a Flooring Mill that makes all of the Basketball Floors for the NBA...including their Portable ones.....He Cobbed on to tons of the Stuff....His whole Kitchen is done in Birdseye....Anyways....this is Hickory Backed Birdseye Maple.....I Perry Reflexed 5 inches into it while it was gluing up.....I have it Long String Tillered just about....before the String Mishap....I am going to go and but some more Cord tomorrow so I can finish it up......what do you guys use for a Long String....What material is it made from?? I just use Parachute Cord....maybe I need to switch!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Mike I just use a B-50 bowstring for a tillering string. If ya make it up this summer you need to bring this bow with ya eh ;D

Nice bow looking forward also to the finished product.
I like fast flight for a tillering string. It doesnt stretch which is nice when you are trying to put a low brace on a reflexed bow for the first time.

I use a B 50 with a timber hitch on one end and a loop on the other.

Josh.... I have been playing with it a Bit....but I have been working so much I haven't had time to really get into it.....It is going to make a really nice Bow though....Whether it is finished or not.....I am taking it up North with Me to show My Dad...and will be taking it to Dana's also....He was watching the Build too....so maybe you can see it too....as for the String.,.... I bought some Mountain Climbing Cord...it should be tough enough!!
