How’s that go? I’m like a mushroom Put me in a dark hole, feed me?
I know a few people that like to hunt them through. They like having a little stone knife. I think they are going to like this design.

I got em growing in my can of beans

Need a little work on my mushroom carving but not too bad for my first

That's awesome! I love that knife

Nice - you better hurry and apply for a patent on that handle.

I honestly was thinking that before I posted this.

Very cool Brian. What kind of rock is that?
-
Thank you Muskyman. It’s something I got in a trade with Patrick aka Jack Crafty. I think he said it was raw Texas chert. It’s pretty tough stuff. Knaps pretty good but I had a little trouble with the inclusion and fossils. It has some steps and thicker spots. Sharpens up nice though. I think the natural earth tones go good for this design.
I tried to look at the best one yet you posted but for some reason my phone puts post in a different format and I can’t see your picture or reply. Maybe after someone posts a reply it might change back. Glad you had some success.
I made a lot of biface when I got the hang of it. I kept making them and then later I tried to thin them. That helped me learn one step at a time

I’ve got some obsidian 3-6 inch spauls I bought. And was gifted some obsidian. Also have some Georgetown that’s 2 to about 4 or 5 inches. The flint is tuff and you have to whack the crap out of it and obsidian as you know you just got to give it a little whack. I’m going to try and work on some of the bigger stuff I’ve already tried and failed on with my indirect. I’m learning slowly and starting to get a few things figured out.

I think this must be one of the Black Morels.
I’m not sure if I like this color combination as much, but it’s one nasty, wicked sharp sticker. It’s certainly one of my nicer points.

Had to transplant them into a bigger pot

This one is my favorite so far. It’s the first mushroom that I carved completely by myself. I think it turned out really good. It almost looked good enough to eat.
The stone was something my cousin picked up from the free stuff pile at the first primitive archery meet we went to. Someone else had worked on it and gave up on it. It was pretty messed up with a bunch of nasty steps. I’m really surprised I got it this nice. It’s a sweet combination

Just need a little garlic, salt and butter. I myself don’t do the breading on mine. Looking good
-
Yep it's a keeper. Good job fixing a problem stone

Some from white glass counter top

That's another good looker

That’s pretty cool. I think I’ve got some quartz window sills around here, think that would work?
I’ll have to look around and see if I still have them. Sometimes my wife makes me throw stuff away >:(
-
Brian those look nice
-
Nice Brian, I really like the quartz point.
-
Well they didn’t pop up last year, but looking like a good crop of them started this year and it’s still early.
A good friend of mine asked me to make him some.

I first posted it in 2024 JW. Was my first crop of them. Just experimenting with them.
2025 I didn’t grow any, but 2026 looks like a good crop so far.

I have to go along with JW, I like them all!
-
Thanks Eddie. I definitely need a bigger container to transplant them into

A couple smaller ones

Wow those are awesome! Just found this thread. I like these a lot, nice job!
-
Glad you like them Robert. I really like them too. I’m getting quite a collection.
I did seven of the bigger ones and six of the smaller ones now.
A guy just can’t have too many of these small guys.

Did three today
One is green obsidian from Jon

I love them
the variations of the handles are really nice
great work :OK

Thanks Glis Glis. Everyone is different. I started out with a piece of cherry firewood that my now passed wood working uncle had saved. My cousin gave it to me.
I split it into kindling sized pieces. The splits follow the grain and make each one different and give them character.
I used an angle grinder with a floppy sanding disk to give them the crude shape and then use my hand tools to finish them.
A little char from my propane torch and then sanding with Emory cloth for the color.
Everything is natural. Wood, pitch glue and sinew.

Yep I keep coming back to check these out, I could see how making these would get addictive! I like the scorched wood, It's a really nice touch.
-
Thanks Robert. You are right. It’s very addictive. I just can’t wait to make another one. I have a pretty good system and I am really improving my halvting skills.
I’m also enjoying putting them in different places.
These three and my bushes beans can are setting roots in my man cave.

Got five more almost done. Just need a little sanding and a finish applied and signed.

These things grow anywhere. Three of them growing out of this piece of black walnut.
