After the bamboo backed Ipe I planned to hunt with broke at Mojam, I decided to make a replacement. But I wanted to try a new combo, hackberry backed Ipe. Since I don’t know how the combo would work I bumped up the dimensions a bit form what I did on the bamboo backed one. It’s 69” nock to nock, 1” wide from center to midlimb, then Tapers to 3/8” nocks. Set is setting at about 1”. Tips are come style cow horn. I got a bit thin and you can see through the horn on places. The handle wrap is ostrich with 1/4” wide goat lace done in double diamond weave.
It’s not a very efficient combo as the hackberry doesn’t really stain the ipe much. It pulls 75# at 27” and throws a 700gr arrow at 162fps and a 1,000gr arrow at 145fps. Compared to the bamboo backed Ipe that pulled 65# at 27” that through the same arrows at 160fps and 142fps. So the hackberry backed shoots a smidge faster but pulls 10# more. With the 1,000gr arrows it’s plenty fast for the distances I can shoot well and makes the bow quite quiet and really isn’t much slower than the 700gr for how much more momentum it gains.
Thanks for looking

I like the nocks.
I think Ipe is best as a belly lam, maybe it's rather heavy for just a backed bow, and is better with a lighter core wood?

Another nice looking bow. Way too heavy for me though.

Beautiful bow man well done! I've never worked with Ipe myself but its a stunning wood, contrasts vey well with the hackberry backing. Tiller is on point too!
Really like that handle braiding too how did you manage that if you don't mind sharing?
Cheers man.

Thats a super cool bow!! Haha very beautiful. I love the contrast between the ice and hackberry. Also that is a lot of power! That could go through an elephant!....maybe haha.
