Title: Tiller check
Post by: Fox on November 24, 2025, 02:52:19 pm
Osage bow that is getting backed with sinew after I get it tillered. 60" TTT 1 1/4" wide at mid limb. Aiming for 40# at 26" currently at 33# at 23". the mildly wavy limbs are giving me a hard time judging on this one any advice would be appreciated! Thanks :)

Definitely wait for advise from more experienced bowyers than me, but it’s kind of hard to see fine detail against the backgrounds you have. I think at this point your tiller looks pretty good, and at 33#@23” I’m betting you’re awful close to your desired40#@26” before sinew. You will have to adjust the tiller after you apply sinew but I don’t know how much weight gain you might gain with the sinew. But I’m guessing you might want to add it before tillering any farther.

That’s what I’m thinking too gonna sinew it today. Hopefully we’ll end up around the desired weight after sinew and dialing in the tiller

Tiller check, or just trying a humble brag? Cuz that looks mighty fine!

I think you are pointed in the right direction. Press on!

Yep, looks good to me.  I like to use calipers for that sort of thing to make sure thickness taper is consistent.  Either outside calipers or your fingers work.  Whatever system you use seems to be doing the job!

Looks mighty good to me also, with that little wave in the right limb it is easy to be fooled, I usually look at it from both sides and that will tell the story. :)
