Title: Tea Pot
Post by: bjrogg on December 29, 2025, 12:38:00 pm
Last winter I took a trip and visited a good bowyer friend DVS Hunter. He insisted on giving me a stave . I told him I didn’t have much room. The stave he gave me was a nice stave but a little on the short side.

I actually took a nice belly split from it and decided to make a short but stout, stiff handle Selfbow

It’s a little under 47” n-t-n

53@20”

I thought about calling it short and stout, but then as I was putting some skins on the back a little nursery rhyme popped in my head.

I’m a little tea pot

Short and stout

Pull me to full draw

And I spit a arrow out

Really nasty outside today. Hopefully I can get some nicer pictures soon. Good day for a cup of tea

Thanks guys.

Looking at the profiles it looks like I could maybe get another inch out of the outer limbs?

Bjrogg, You had me at tea pot. That's got to be the best title I've ever heard!

I love your short bows. Top notch stuff. Very inspirational.

Thank you Hamish.

Really appreciate that.

It’s funny how some names just come to you. Totally unrelated, yet so much the same.

Thought maybe a few of you guys across the pond might enjoy it

That's the perfect name for that little bow.   :OK  I think you're right about getting another inch out of it.  I shot a 50" sinew backed osage bow with a stiff handle that pulled 50@27".  It was a great hunting bow until I let it go.  It's amazing how little wood it actually takes...

Looks great Brian. Good bend for sure. I found over the years that most of my bows ended up naming themselves.

I like it and I think it is a lot of fun shooting it - congrats.

Thanks everyone.

Bob I’m toying with the idea of getting a little more bend in my outer limbs. I have been shooting it for a couple weeks and it feels good, but it would be nice to get another inch of draw.

Brian, I can see where you could relieve the outer limb on that one limb I can see in the pic and that would give you an inch. If the other limb is similar there is another inch.

There is a little deflex kink in the top limb. With just a little twist. It does look a little stiff in the outers though. Might have to put it on the tree again. I don’t remember it looking that way on the tree.

I might be able to squeeze a little more draw and relieve some stress without losing weight.
