Here's the other bow I started while I was at the Cassic. It's Tennessee Hickory, and I backed it with silk. The bow is going to a good friend and the owner of the Alexacarrie Plantation, Tim Beach.
I steamed some backset in the tips but the majority of it pulled out during tillering. It is 1 3/4" at the fades and tapers to 1/4" tips. It pulls 70# @ 28" and is 64" NTN. I stained the belly by toasting it with the heatgun and then rubbing charcoal into the grain then 8 coats of spar, then Lacquer.
Then fancied it up a little. I didn't know how much Tim will hunt with it so I figured it might turn into a part time wall hanger.

Beauty of an arc there Eddie......Brian

That's a purty bow Eddie! Love that tiller - am going to have ta try some artwork one day.
-
Great bow, Eddie. You must have been pretty busy at the Classic! I saw a lot of sawdust and chips fly ;)
We'll enjoy this fine bow for all of June's BOM consideration.
-
Thanks everybody, Hickory can sure be frustrating, I'm with Ryan, Osage Rules.
-
Mullet, Did ya use Silk or silk Screen or what kind of silk? I get My silk from Art stores It's chinese silk and is fine textured. I tried Silk screen thinking it was silk and found out its not its synthetic.
-
Phillip, I got it from a sewing, fabric store. It's raw unbleached silk. It cost about $3 a yard.
-
Thanks Mullet I'll Go to my local Fabric Store and See if they have the unbleached.I think I have been usin the bleached which is not as strong.
-
Hey mullet, what kinda glue did ya use to put the silk on ?
-
Must be nice to grow oranges and pineapples in your back yard ;D.
-
Hey Eddie
Thats a mighty fine looking bow you got there. You know hickory is near and dear to my heart.Fine job mighty fine.

Auggie, I put it on with TB3. I soaked the silk and sized the bow first. Then rubbed the bubbles out with my finger.
Paul, The Papaya's are above the pineapples , next to the Cumquats, behind the Loquats, near the lemon tree. ;)
Ronnie, that hickory bow will have a home in Abbeville, Ga.
-
That's a beauty of a bow! Jawge
-
Cumquats, loquats - where are the highquats ;D? Naw, looks like ya'll may get some weather here directly. What kind of snake was that in catfishon's picture anyway? Looks like something I'm finding back west.
-
Eddie that turned out real nice. Going to be a good gift.
really like your artwork.

Eddie, you have been busy, very original, and a nice arc too! Cumquats who picked that name? :o :D
Rich-Your friend will be thrilled!
-
That is an incredible looking bow. You have done great. Im sure he will be happy. Justin
-
Nice bow. Silk looks very flat and even. How did you get such a good flat finish on the silk?
Also, any chance of some pics of the belly. The finish and colour fro heating and rubbing in charcoal sounds interesting.

Thats a beauty, Eddie. I'm sure Tim will love it...maybe ya'll can get him to shoot a pig with it while you're over there. Pat
-
Mark, the only thing I did with the sik is soak it in water. Then I covered the back in TB3 and layed the silk on and smoothed out the bubbles. That unbleached silk seems to be better than using old ties and shirts. Here are some pictures of the belly. Sorry about the quality, the sun is really bright today and I had a hard time with the glare.
I hope he'll use it at least a few times. I hate to make wall hangers.

Eddie,
WoW! I didn't expect such a fine gift. If you, Steve and Chris can teach me how to shoot it straight, I'll definitely hunt with it.
Looking forward to seeing you guys back down South. I saw about 50-60 dumb pigs that watched me shoot stalking lanes through the fields in prepping for your trip.
-
We'll have you shooting it. As you know by now, I was the dummy that was packed and ready to go this coming weekend. Still see you the following weekend.
-
Hi, VERY NICE WORK!!! I love the colours you've used, good to look at and great to use in the hunt! Thanks for your time. Steve.
