Title: Lowes bamboo
Post by: Don on July 03, 2008, 05:03:53 pm
Hello All.
My try with the Mississippi cane didn't work very well. :(
So I've picked some of the wild Lowe's green bamboo. It straightens easily and should work well.
My question for those who have used this is.
How do you get the green dye off this stuff?
Thanks Don

Don, From my experience it comes off on your hands. ;D  You may be able to wipe it down with alcohol to remove most of it. Just a guess!      Pat

Use mineral spirits or acetone. Good soap and water and steel wool work also.

This stuff really comes off hard.
Anyway I made up one arrow [anxious to see how they worked] , spined 50-55, eastern style fletching, self nock, and a 145 gr point.
Shoots a little tail low but hits right on the mark. These are very cool. If I could only find them in natural color.
Thanks. Don

I've bought natural colored from Sears before.

i order mine direct in bundles of 500.  this tonkin can be tricky to straighten.  if the nodes over heat by just a little they will snap during straightening.  river cane and others are much easier to work.

My experience with it has been bad. I bought a bag from Lowes and 90% of them were way to dry. They had splits in them .
