Well don't feel like the Loneranger. I was cooking some outside in the toaster oven and had it blazing at 500dgs+ when it started to rain. I was lucky enough to be home and get everything shut off and moved inside before the glass doors broke.

You can heat treat in a toaster oven?  Is it modified in anyway or just stock?

Yikes.......Good thing no one got hurt.  :o Man you got to quit dealing in the self-knapping rock. What's the fun in that?

The one rock that I had blow a gasket on appeared to come off with some authority, but I think the sand on top took most of the energy.  I was with the smoker all day and never heard it go off, but then again I guy has to visit the little boys room and I guess it could have happened then. ::)

The toaster oven isn't modified. Just a little ol' oven with broiler, toaster, and bake at 500dgs. I've been using them for years.

How do you use the toaster oven when heating the rocks? Just turn it up to the temp you want and let it heat. Then slowly lower the temp over time?

Paul, that rock ya sent me can it be heat treated in a toaster oven?

David I spall the rock to small usable stone and lay it in the tray. Stuff like that agate from Washington and Brazilean agate, Mookite, coral, chert. I turn it up to 500dgs and let it go all nite. When I go to work in the morning I unplug it and it is usually cool and nice and waxy when I get home in the PM. The last oven, I paid $5 for at the Flea market.
