Title: GregB's arrows [Finished]
Post by: Pappy on July 21, 2008, 06:30:03 am
Greg ask me to post these, turned out good,I think most shoot great, maybe a few that need a
little tweeking, should kill a deer tho. :) Also the last 3 are mine they shoot fine,a little stiff I think
but I feel confident I can get them flying good with trade points on them,Now I just need to get on the other 9 or 10 I have.I have learned a lot on these and have a pretty good idea what I am looking for as far as spine and weight so the next won't be just guessing. Maybe won't spend as much time straighting and building them just to find they don't fly good. :)

Pappy, good looking arrows. cane sure takes a lot of work, but it's worth it when you get some flying good. Yeah the more you make the more you learn about them and the eaiser it is to pick the shafts that will probably make a good arrow. Although sometimes  the one you think will fly the best just don't work out. Let us know how they shoot with trade points.

The pictures of my 3 didn't show up,here they are now.Yes it seems to be getting easier and
i do like them a lot, they are tough and when they are right they fly like a bullet. :)

how did you install the field points? Very nice. I only hope I can figure this out and make some half as nice.

Deersled, I bought hard wood dowells of different diameters trying to have the right size to be close to matching the varying hollow sizes in the cane. I drilled out the hollow trying to keep it to a minimum of removing material to fit in the closest diameter dowell. I cut the dowells around 1-1/4" and glued in with TBIII on both the nock and fieldpoint ends. I used an electric sanding disc to taper the shaft for the field points. Most of them I had to touch up by hand some to get to fit.

I think on future cane arrows I'll for sure to group by weight, and spine test them as well. I mostly went only by weight this time and had several that didn't fly well out of my bow. Hopefully the deer will cooperate this fall! ;)
