...around western Virginia, the Kirk tradition is by far the most abundant early Archaic point found, especially in the mountain sites. Here's my little take on it, you can be a kid again, just make your own! From left: stemmed, serrated and corner notched. C'mon fellers'(and gals) show your Kirks, please!

those are cool !! what material did you make them from ??
I especially like how you thinned the base of the stemmed point. would make hafting a little simpler it seems....

I'm happy to get a pointy end and a broader end. I've a lot to learn before I classify them as a particular style.
Great job there Pete.

Nice point there Pete. You going to hunt with it?
I know how you feel Paul. Busy, but not making bows or arrows. I promise I'll at least hunt with something other than FG this year. I promise not to hunt with FG. I promise not to hunt with FG. I promise......

Beautiful points- you in western VA? I'm in shenandoah co. (Mt. Jackson) there's a ring of rocks "hut site" next to one of my improvised ground blinds in the GW Nat'l forest. Love sitting on stand imagining what it was liike back in the day. What else can you tell me about western VA tribes?
Thanks

Looks like you've been busy Pete - that's a fine looking point. That knapping is some quality therapy :). You'll start flipping those points back and forth scrutinizing every ridge and valley and develop a sense of how to read the rock - before ya know it, you'll not have a step or hinge anywhere - just smooth tapering feathered out flakes. Ahhhh ;) ;D.

That right there...is proof that some people just have it in their blood. He must have been a master knapper in a past life, and the way it looks, will become one in this life. ;)
-
Shannon, I agree-and I'd say the same thing about you, too. :)
-
Thanks y'all. I am enjoying this, it seems as though I am making up for lost time somehow. I may need new shocks when I get back from Ohio.....I plan to load 'er down so I can get 'er done.
