Title: ash selfbow - eastern woodlandish
Post by: snedeker on August 27, 2008, 01:23:07 pm
Edge grain piece, narrow split from trimming up a white ash stave.  60" long, 55#/28".  1 and 1/4 inch wide to taper.   Pin nocks.   One I might give to Delaware Indians with whom I'll be coordinating on an archy project in Delaware.  Left it leather free so far.  Put a dot with a marker to mark the arrow pass.  Plucky little shooter.  I heated in a couple inches reflex and it retains 1/2"

Good lookin bow. Where is your arrow pass, in relation to center? From the full draw it looks lower than center, or at least your bow hand looks that way.

The arrow pass is dead center between the tips.  Must be an optical illusion.  Looks low to me too.

By the way, grain and rings were followed in a little curvy area at the end of the upper limb, which you may or may not be abble to see.

Pics are a little fuzzy,  Must have done the resizing wrong.

I am encouraged.  I've not had the best luck with ash but may give it another try because this one is a beauty.  Love the nocks too.

Nice tiller and a great broomstick profile unstrung, all in a small package with a heavy wallop.  Quarter "sawn" split?

Yeah, I took a narrow stave split and turned it sideways.  First in  a series of these I'm making to give to some indians.
