I can get Tonkin, 8 to 10mm, undyed from the Bamboo Supply store by my house. They come in rolls of 500 x 4', $62 without shipping.
-
Is that by your house or in your house Mullet??? ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Both, ;D ;)
-
Mullet, is that tonkin sanded smooth? Or does it still have nodes? Is that 8mm and 10mm dimension measured across the fat end of the shaft? Thanks. (Forgive me if you've already answered these questions in some other thread.)
-
There is not a lot of difference in Tonkin from one end to another. They are also almost solid in the middle with a very small pith hole. The nodes are not very prominent and these shafts are smooth.
-
Thanks Mullet. The tonkin I bought recently had some pretty lumpy nodes.....and some of the branches seemed to be hacked off with a blunt object. :-\
-
Just sand the rough edges, that stuff is not going to come apart on you. Ask everybody what my arrow looked like that I shot the metal target with at Pappy's shoot.
-
yeah, all bamboo and cane I've tried seems tough as nails

is www.amleonard.com the right url?

Eddie, how difficult are the tonkin to straighten? Do you usually put hard wood inserts in for the nock and tip?
-
Greg, I've watched Chris Cade straighten a dozen pretty fast. You would be hard pressed to insert any wood in Tonkin. They are almost solid.

What does He charge to ship??? I am interested.....
-
I don't know, I drive 5 miles and pick it up. Sent you a PM.
-
I just checked out the price including shipping to my zone and the grand total was $51.35. It works out to about $.10 a piece. I'm thinking this is very doable depending on the hand selected quality. This would definitely boost my supply of squirrell arrows!
Mullet, in a bale of 500, what is an estimate of usable shafts from your experience? half or better?
Thanks Tracy
-
Chris Cade (mechlesher) can answer that better than me. I don't make many arrows. I trade the supplies to make them to the arrowmakers ;D Are you sure that price is right? I would call and talk with them on the phone. The first bundle I bought 3 years ago was $48 without shipping ant the last one was $62, last year.
-
Yes, the price is normally 53.99 but has a 35% discount. Still normal price would make it $64 shipped. I think I'll just give it a try and see. If nothing else I'll sell them to the wife for her greenhouse where she teaches ;D

Hey Mike, I talked to Mechslasher about what percent are usable(estimate) and it sounds promising if you're shooting 50+ lbs, better than half with 25% of 500 not usable. I'll pm you when I get them and let you know what they're like.

could someone PM me the supplier/adress/website or phone#
