Title: Tiller check again
Post by: Jesse on October 24, 2008, 02:50:55 pm
I had another thread for this bow a while ago but thought I would start a new one. I had to put it down for a while and just started working it again. Its funny how a few hours work can take months  :D  Right now this Maple from Dana is pulling 45# @ 23" Im gonna tiller to 28" Looks to me like the right limb needs work mid limb and maybe just out of the fade? Picture is crooked again. oops hard to pull the rope and hold er steady at the same time. :)  Feel free to draw red marks or circles or say what your thinking ;D        Thanks in advance
 Jesse

Brother, I'll tell ya what I'm thinking. I'm thinking your tiller is dang close to perfect and it is reflected in the fact that your unbraced profile shows no string follow. Greese it down, oil it up, put a handle on it, whatever you want to do. She's good to go.

Good idea putting it down. Sometimes that's what it takes to have an outcome as good as this. Way to go. What kind of pundage are ya lookin' at there?

Got me wantin' to try some hard maple. What is the exact name of it? Silver Maple?

~~Papa Matt

:) Thanks  Papa Matt  I  see spots that need work but I dont want to come in too light either. I will try for 50# I got advice to string it backwards and heat treat the belly  when I got it to brace which I did. I also got advice to do it again when I get it bending nice at 25". But  If its still not showing follow at 25" I might just skip the second belly heat treatment.  I had the heat gun to this bow a bunch already just to straighten it. Putting it down for a while is a good thing but I started this bow at Pappys in the spring :D Actually Pappy laid it out for me.    Its hard maple by the way. I heard silver isnt much good.  Thanks for the compliment
  Jesse

Looks darn good. Make the limb on right the bottom 'cause it's a tad stiff. Nice job. Jawge

Thanks guys. So what I'm hearing is I dont have any major issues at this point. Im gonna give it a pull to 25 and see what she looks like. Right limb is the bottom and has been from the start because the string lies a little to one side of the handle.

Jesse, that's looking really good to me. If I did anything at all, it might be a few scrapes just past midlimb on both sides, but no problems really that I can see. Looks like it's gonna be a nice'un.

Thanks Hillbilly I think your right. I might just take a few more scrapes off that area. I say scrapes but actually I'm tillering with a sander at this point.

Looks pretty good but I seem to detect a stiff area on the outer 3rd of the right limb.

Jesse, don't go getting picky on us now, that bow is looking good. I'm with the crew on this one and as the Beatles sang " Let it beeeee, let it be, let it beeeee let it be. Seeking words of wisdom let it beeeee".  lol   Danny

I'm with Eric, look good but if you need to loose a little weight I would work on the right limb just a bit.Very nice so far.You still have 3 inches to go,what is the weight now ? :)

Right now its just a little under 50# @ 25". I wont have time to do any more on it until  sat.  :'(

Jesse, I don't remember what weight you were after...you're probably around 56# or so now at 28". If that is the close to the weight you're after, I'd leave it alone at this point. Also keep in mind that you'll probaby lose a couple of pounds shooting it in... ;)

Greg I will be happy with 50# @ 28 on this one.   My draw is more like 27" and I usually like more poundage  but I have a feeling this bow might end up in someone else hands ;)    Jesse

I don't see a problem with leaving it like it is,I just thought if you still had some weight
you could touch up that limb. :) How that gal doing ? Getting big I bet. :)
